Our DMCA takedown: a post-Mortem

This is a post-Mortem of the DMCA takedown notice that hit Gadgetbridge in June 2017, written by two core developers of the project.

First things first: We would like to thank all the people who sent us their support via mail, social networks, chat and other means.

As everyone does in this case, let's start with the:

tl;dr: We were surprised to have been hit by a DMCA takedown notice on Github. We decided to file a counter notice because we stand firm in our belief that no content in our repository ever violated US or EU laws including but not limited to the DMCA. We are happy the project is back online and available for the community.

Gadgetbridge repository reopened by Github

Today, Github finally reopened our repository including wiki, issues and all other content, since the 14 days waiting period, which started after they published our Counter Notice is over now.

We want to thank all the great people who supported us during the last five weeks!

The issue tracker is disabled on purpose for now, but will re-open it during the next few days!

Gadgetbridge Github DMCA Takedown

You may have noticed that our github repository, including the issue tracker and wiki at github is currently not accessible.

This is because the developer of another app filed a DMCA request and github shut down the entire repository.

We're working on a solution, but it is hard to get a response from github, so please be patient.
